Do kitchens go on the second floor. I think the other question you should ask is what that will do to the re sale value of the home. To make up for lost cabinet space there are a few open shelves in front of the window which add storage but still let light in. Why are kitchens never on the second floor of a house. The kitchen wall behind the range continues to a second floor bedroom so we do have a straight shot up and from what i can tell without having opened any walls the studs line up pretty well on both floors.
On a second floor try to position it so it backs onto a bathroom. The only solution i ve found is to go up through our second floor and through the attic. Just look at those windows. Yes i think it s odd for a kitchen to be on a second floor.
Because the kitchen is on the second floor it gets a ton of natural light. I am in southwest us and i ve never seen a second floor kitchen so if you live in a place where every kitchen is on the second floor forgive my ignorance. And for nighttime or cloudy days there s still plenty of overhead lighting in the way of. Don t ignore the importance of good ventilation.
Don t put the laundry too close to sleeping areas. Close to kitchens and washrooms obviously makes sense. Laundry generates significant. You won t likely own this home forever and when you go to sell it you will have a hard time doing so because the general public won t go for having a second floor kitchen.
