Diy anti static mat. I do my diy repairs as cheap as possible so i go old school and just discharge the static electricity in my body by touching the metal frame on the device to equalize the electric potential. However having the mat and the wrist strap grounded at the same point does keep them in electrical balance. Most people think its hard to fry electronics with static electricity. No experience with carbon fibre or any of the like.
Esi works on electrostatic dissipative surfaces in our facility. The grounding cable is what connects the anti static mat being used as a work surface to the electrical outlet. In my life i deal with lots of sensitive electronics every day and frying these electronics is a big concern when touching them. I am not joking it is possible if you are experienced.
I made a diy cork mat and i ve noticed a reduction in static. You can buy mat kits online from general online retailers such as amazon. Its not one touch could send your 100 graphics. An anti static wrist strap will do just fine.

If you re standing on an esd mat you don t have to worry about that buildup damaging esd sensitive components.
However i don t do it enough to justify buying an antistatic wrist strap or esd mat. The difference between using grounding cables separate for a mat or wrist strap as opposed to a common point ground is primarily ergonomic. This is my first instructable. An inexpensive solution to a reasonably expensive albeit necessary electronic soldering accessory.
